Emi = Beautiful

May 27, 2008

The weekend was great. It felt like a mini vacation. I wish we could just hang out with the kids all the time and do whatever. Oh, wouldn’t it be nice…

I just wanted to post Emi’s current favorite song. It just kills me how adorable she is riding her bike and singing this. She got really upset with lil’ Charlie this morning because he was singing along to it, and well since it’s her song she wasn’t too thrilled about it. lol. kids.

I wanna DANCE!

May 24, 2008

Okay…I’m really itchin’ to move my feet. I’m seriously having withdraws from lack of dancing (not really). And, I don’t want to go just anywhere; I can’t stand that bling bling modern hip hop or Justin Timberlake crap. I want Beauty Bar music!! If there is anyone who knows what a Beauty Bar is or knows of IHEARTCOMIX RECORDS label, and knows of a good place that will play good underground pop punk and electronic dance music…please please, pretty please tell me. I’m not from Indy and am in dyer need of this info. Seriously, they need to open a Beauty Bar here.- I mean I do need a place to go and get a manicure while sipping a martini listening to fabulous music.

Well, here’s a sample of want I have in mind…

When the Sun Hits

May 23, 2008

Last year was a pretty rough year for Charlie and I. So many awful things happened; things that we inflicted on ourselves. It was like it was all a dream, like we had warped into two completely different people who didn’t know how to relate to one another. We were enemies at war; and I truly don’t even remember how it all started. It was just horrible. When we finally came out of our trance we thought to ourselves, what the hell are we doing, we are completely destroying each other, and for what. We laid there many nights quite, sad and sorry; feeling bad for what we put each other through; and hurt for being put through what could have totally been avoided. -But really, thinking about it now, I know it’s all for a reason. If we hadn’t gone through it we’d just be a couple married almost seven years getting by without emotions, and simply just going through the motions. But today, we’re glowing again…no darkness…just light and space to grow. We came through it, maybe not gracefully, but we did. It took a long time, but we’re finally back. We’ve made our truce, and are finally in our new element.
These songs, actually the entire Souvlaki album, are for those nights of realization, and really just feeling quite silly about it all.
And, I really wish I could upload songs directly from my own files, but I’m not ready to upgrade on here just yet. Lali Puna does an amazing cover of, Slowdive’s, 40 days – It really is the epitome of it all. I wish I could post that one for you, but they don’t have it on Hypemachine, not by Lali Puna or Slowdive. You can hear the 30 second sample of it just about anywhere you can sample music though.

I remember being super giddy after hearing “Later Operator” for the first time a few years ago. It’s seriously probably the cutest song ever. The All Girl Summer Fun Band, is like strawberry shortcake topped with whip cream. They even wrote a song about my tv hunk crush, Jason Lee. E!!

Jason Lee

The winter is over…and I’ve gone and lost myself in this song again; just like I have a thousand times before. Beirut is such a great band. They have a new album, The Flying Club Cup, but this one is from their previous album, Gulag Orkestar, it somehow always gets me drifting off into lala land; setting sail from the banks of the Rhine. Trust me, it’s a wonderful place to be. I’ve gone there many times. You should join me some time.

I’m not feeling all that well, and I’m really tired. I have a couple more hours and I can go home and relax; maybe take some nyquil and pass out.

I started my voice and piano lessons last Friday, which has gotten me really inspired; just wish I had the energy to do something.  My instructor didn’t say I was hopeless or don’t come back, so that’s a good sign, yeah. I’m sure he needs the money, so why would he. No, really I think it went well…can’t wait for the next lesson.

Ooh, and Charlie, being the great husband he is, bought me a new keyboard this weekend. It’s lovely. I love it. He’s the best!

And, since I’m here I’ll post what I’ve been listening to all day. They go perfectly with the gray clouds, cool winds, and the pitter patter of the raindrops.

They’re an Icelandic quartet with a minimalist style. Soft. Lovely. And, delicate.

I heart the 80’s!!

May 16, 2008

I’m having an 80’s kind of morning; and I have to say It’s giving me a pretty good dose of nostalgia. A good friend of mine asked me to make a mix for a friend of hers that is having a bridal shower dinner on Saturday; and well since I’m the mix cd junkie she knew I’d be more than thrilled to make her one. Actually, I prefer mix tapes, but I gotta grow with the times.

Everybody Wants to Rule the World” is first up, and it’s giving me the best memories of my sister. She’s about eight years older than I, and in my eyes, was the coolest person that ever walked the planet. I remember her playing, “Just Like Heaven“, by the Cure for the first time. I couldn’t get enough of it. I was about seven when I heard it, and I was in awe. It was the most beautiful song I had ever heard. Anybody really I think could feel all the emotions bursting through it. I use to take my walkman and lay out in the middle of a grassy field and listen to it staring at the sky getting lost in the wistful and gentle melodies.

Well, I’m on Duran Duran now. “In touch with the ground. I’m on the hunt, I’m after you.” Ahh…You gotta love them! So refreshing.

And, just because…here is a list of 80’s songs that I often get lost to.

Okay, seriously I could go on and on, but I’ll stop here. It was actually pretty fun making this list. OMD, cracks me up! Electricity is another good 80’s song by them!

Hope you enjoyed the list. Ciao!

I’m really diggin’ Shannyn Sossamon’s band, Warpaint. I read somewhere she was a big fan of Blonde Redhead, and well being a fan of theirs I had to give it a hear. They didn’t disappoint. The recording isn’t the greatest, but it just makes it that much more enigmatic.

Stars

and…while I’m at it I’ll add one of my favorite Blonde Redhead songs.
